i have a .txt file pasted into a word document and cannot get it to single space.

when i click on the paragraph symbol to display the otherwise hidden line control paragraph symbols a symbol appears at the end of every line and on an otherwise blank line below it.

i have unsuccessfully tried many ways, in addition to editing the symbols, to single space the text lines.

any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The line spacing setting adjusts the spacing between the lines in a paragraph. You need paragraph spacing to adjust the spacing between the paragraphs. Set Space After to (say) 12.

i have unsuccessfully tried all the single space options i can find.

i copied the original notepad text to a word document and then applied the ''show paragraph symbol option'' resulting in the image displayed in the attachment.

i'm guessing i need to eliminate the stand alone paragraph control characters between each line?

please advise

You certainly have empty paragraphs between the paragraphs with text, but as I already said this is nothing to do with line spacing but paragraph spacing. Select the text and then -

your red arrows helped enormously. i was completely unaware of the concept of clicking on the little paragraph check box.

i selected text and tried to apply the settings shown in the attachment to the text, but was unsuccessful [i.e.] the unwanted paragraph controls did not go away.

your help is much appreciated.

None of this will affect the empty paragraphs. You can remove those using the replace function (CTRL+H). replace
^13{1,}
with
^p
with the wildcard option set.
