Default Ability to edit header with document protection on

I need to use auto fields (legacy)/ content control for fields in a word form in the body of the document and in the header/ footer, but when protection is turned on, the header or footer is not able to be opened.

Is there a way around this? I don't want the structure of the form to be able to be changed or other text that is not in a field for data entry to be able to be changed.

The short answer is no. What is it that you need to edit in the header/footer?

Consider just using content controls rather than legacy formfields with content controls. Then restrict editing - no changes - with exceptions and include content controls in your header/footer as exceptions.

I join with Graham in asking why you need to edit the header/footer. You can often change content in those using StyleRef Fields without actually opening them for editing.

The general rule is that you should not use legacy formfields and content controls in the same document.

I have information that I want repeated on every page so that's why its in the header, i.e. project name and document number and name.

I am not using both content controls and legacy form fields, I meant that im using one or the other. I''ll give your suggestion a go Charles and see how I go.

Thanks for your help.

If you input the information to be replicated into the document body, you can have it replicated in the header via StyleRef fields, as Charles has already suggested. This can be done with either formfields or content controls - or even with neither.

Default Issue Fixed

All sorted now, I used the content controls in header then selected them as an exception for editing once the document was protected.

Thanks so much for your input everyone
