Is there a way to create a table of figures that shows shortened captions? My Figure captions are quite long and I don't want the whole captions showing up in my Table of Figures.

Change the style of the part that you do not want to show up from Caption.
Caption is a paragraph style, so if you want things on the same line or in the same logical paragraph, you will need to use a Style Separator between the part you want in your table and the part you do not. To do this, they start out as separate Word paragraphs. You apply the Caption style to the part you want in your TOF and your other style to the part of the caption you just want on the page. Note that the other style can have exactly the same formatting as the Caption style. Attached is a document where I did this. In two of the captions, only the Caption style is used. In the others, the remaining text was put in a different style. Then a Table of Figures (Tables) was generated. Insert a Caption - Complex Documents Create a Table of Figures |
