Default Normal.dotm location?

I'm assuming that normal.dotm is located in C:\Users\[my user name]\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\Templates. I've placed a new normal.dotm file there and renamed the old one, but it has no affect on my Word layout. What am I missing here? Thanks.

That is the default location. However, why don't you just make changes to the Normal.dotm template that Word had created? What layout changes are you trying to achieve? If you created a new blank document from the template that you placed in that folder, did it contain those layout changes?

The new normal.dotm template came from my laptop with a bunch of customizations to the quick access toolbar. I suppose I could just duplicate that. However, I'm concerned that Word isn't paying attention the the new normal.dotm template.

Also, how do I make changes to my current normal.dotm template?

Thanks, DougMVP.

Arthur

I want to add and then populate a quick access toolbar.

The normal template is seldom where changes to the QAT are stored. The only time I would do that would be if the button accessed some resource stored in the normal template. I would be more likely to move the resource to another template and put the QAT button in that template.
