Hi,
This is my problem: - I have Headings in my document. - I create a hyperlink to a certain Heading (e.g. 3.3.2). - I change the document so now Heading 3.3.2 become 3.3.3. - Now my hyperlink takes me to the 3.3.2 instead of the intended 3.3.3. Is there a way to create a hyperlink that will be indifference to order/location changes? Regards, Ayal. |

Why are you using Hyperlinks instead of cross-references? Hyperlink references don't auto-update, so they're unsuitable for documents subject to ongoing edits.

Or Insert>Cross-reference.

Cross-Reference worked for me - thanks Macropod. Now I have to find how to change the format of a Cross-Reference, since for some odd reason Word does not format it as Hyperlink, or allow you to set the format of all Cross-Reference in your document... This link http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/formatcross....htm#FormatAll have useful info, but for some reason the "Replace" doesn't work for me (it finds nothing). Enjoy. |

That is by design - people generally don't want cross-references appearing as hyperlinks in printed documents.
You may find it useful to turn word's field shading on - see under File|Options|Advanced>Show Document Content.

I can certainly understand wanting special formatting, though, if you are using the document as a pdf or in Word form and not on paper. To find a field, you have to have field codes displayed. Alt+F9 When I tried this in Word 2010, I could not get a single underline to work, but a double-underline did. Replacing with the hyperlink style did not add any underlining. - Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 06-22-2016 at 06:47 PM. |

Also, Cross-Reference formatting can be ignored during printing. Regarding the "Replace", I tried several options in the "Find What" box but nothing was found, so of course no formatting was done. I'm on Office 2013. Regards. |

Ignoring this formatting during printing will involve changing it. There is nothing you can click on to not print the underscore. Rather than using direct formatting, you could create a character style with the characteristics you want. That way, to prepare it to print witohut those characteristics, you would only need to modify the style. Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 06-22-2016 at 06:49 PM. |

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If you want your Cross-References to have a particular format, you should employ the Charformat switch. See: https://support.office.com/en-ie/art...6-4efc027f2cf3 Note: you shouldn't use Charformat and Mergeformat switches in the same field.
