Default Template path question

I am running into a problem with some templates that I have created and the documents built from those templates.

If I create a document on my computer, the templates are located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. When I move the file over to a co-workers computer, he isn't seeing the template because it is reading the path with my username. Does Word not pull the environment variable for that? Am I just crazy for thinking that it would, rather than reading the literal path?

From my understanding you have to make these adjustments for your User Templates to work on anothe computer:

"The global template (Normal.dot) is classified as a "user" template and is saved to a different location than the other templates. When you create a new template, the template is saved to a location that is common to the particular user instead of with the installed Word templates. By default, custom "user" templates (including Normal.dot) are saved to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
Note Username is the logon name of the user."

How...

So, from your understanding, either I have to change where I (and my coworkers and clients) store the templates, or I'm S.O.L.

Thanks for the info. Not the answer I was hoping for, but if that's the nature of the beast, I just have to deal with it.

I have never done this, much less thought about it
