Default Use L and R arrow to move cursor letter to letter, not top of the line

For some reason, when I use L or R arrow to move within a word (move cursor by one character), the cursor jumps to the beginning or end of the line. How can I fix this?
Thanks!

This sounds like the Home and End key behaviour. Could it be that your keyboard setup doesn't match the actual keyboard? I used to have all manner of problems similar to this when using an italian keyboard with US setup.

Never mind - it looks like you have discovered the problem already.
