Default Notepad Terminal Font in Word?

Is it possible to get the Terminal font which is used in Notepad to be usable in Word?

The Terminal font that comes with Windows for use in Notepad is an ancient raster (bitmap) format not supported in Word. An approximation is Arial Narrow. Alternatively, you may be able to find a downloadable Terminal font that uses the TrueType or OpenType format, either of which you can use with Word.

Thanks for that - I suspected as much. I did a lot of Googling and failed to find a solution.

Default Solved!

Actually, the Arial font is not an approximation because it does not have the line-drawing characters - but this TTF font does:

Yes - this is exactly what I wanted! Thank you to the kind person who created it!

Arial most certainly does have such characters. I suggest you look in the font's Box Drawing Section. See under Insert|Symbol.

Yes, it has line-drawing characters, but not with the same codes.

I have old DOS programs which use code page 437, where, for example, a vertical line is ASCII 179. If I copy this to MS Word and use the Arial font, it replaces the line-drawing characters with accented characters.

The ibm.ttf font, however, replicates the old ASCII codes that the program is held in and so it displays exactly as it did under DOS.

Fine, but that's a different from whether Arial has such characters; you also didn't previously provide any context (i.e. 'old DOS programs').

FWIW, the MS Windows font equivalent was MS LineDraw (linedraw.ttf) - Version 2.00 came with Office 4.3 & 97.
