Default Error opening file: "Found a problem with its contents"

Further Details:

"The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag"

Using Office 2013 Word on Windows 10.

Tried to use Fix-It, but it does not run on Windows 10.

Is there anyway to recover this my file?

File is too big to attach to this post.

See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2528942

I don't know if the FixIt there is the one you tried; if so and it fails, you may need to resort to the manual approach.

Do you have Office 2013 Service Pack 1 installed? If not, you should install that. Service Pack 1 resolves this issue for new files and will also prevent the problem from recurring with any files recovered with the Fix it solution in the above article.

Paul,
Thank you for your reply.

Yes I tried to use FixIt, but it will not install on Windows 10.

I also tried to use the manual repair procedure, but the Notepad search could not find oMath.

I also was not able to install Office 2013 64 Bit SP1, since it is not supported on Windows 10.

Could it be that my original file was too big (97 MB) for Word to handle? I plan to lower the resolution of the pictures in the file.

My only recourse seems to be to recreate the file.

Both the Fixit and Office 2013 64 Bit SP1 are supported on Windows 10. Your inability to install them suggests there are other problems with your system.

As for the file size, Word can handle documents up to 512Mb in size.

Thanks again.

When I access https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/..._and_uninstall, I get : We're sorry, but your operating system is not supported by Microsoft Fix it at this time.
Runs on
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows Server 2012 editions
  • Windows Server 2012 R2
When I access https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=42006
Supported Operating System
Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2

If there are updated MICROSOFT sites for these fixes, I cannot find them.

At this point, this has become a moot problem. I have reconstituted most of the failing file with lower resolution pictures, and have not run into the problem again.

I doubt that this is a problem with my system (that I have caused). My Windows 10 operating system is only 2 weeks old, and was installed on a fully tested clean system by a professional installer. The system has been protected by Norton. No unusual incidents have occurred using the system since Win 10 was installed.

If that's so, I'd be asking the 'professional installer' why they didn't install Office 2013 64 Bit SP1 - unless, of course, you have a subscription (click-to-run) installation, aka Office 365, in which case they should have installed the Office 2016 version of that.

Regardless, I'm glad you have the problem sorted.
