Incorrect large font on new documents

I was working on a document/letter and I think I inadvertently hit some key combination that changed the font from regular to very large. Now whenever I open a "new" word document the font is large no matter what selection I have on the menu bar. Example: my default font is Times New Roman 10 - but what I type is large and I can find no way to get it back to normal. Can someone help
