Is there a way to anchor drop-down content control boxes so entering text doesn't change formatting?
I've created a new form for the non-profit human services agency at which I am an intern, but it has some "glitches." First, I'd like to protect the entire form except for all content control boxes--including the one in the header. If I select Review > Restrict Editing > Allow only this type of editing > Filling in forms, then it locks me out of the header's date box. Is there a way to make a specific exception for just that part of the header (or even the entire header) without enabling editing outside of content control boxes in the body of the document? Second, this document uses multiple content control drop-downs and text boxes in lines, in order to track client names and certain data relevant to their treatment. It is important that the continuity between these boxes not be broken up in order to easily track the information. Unfortunately, if you enter too much text in a box the words wrap and distort the formatting by moving stuff to other lines, and so on. The whole thing becomes jumbled. Is there a way to anchor these boxes or limit the number of characters that can be entered, so that this no longer happens? Thanks in advance for whatever help you can offer me! Use No Changes - with exceptions and put exceptions for your Content Controls.
If you do not want other text to move, put your CC inside a single-cell fixed-size table or textbox/shape. |

Thank you for your fast reply. I'm still unsure of how I can select both the content control boxes in the header and document body at the same time, though. Any time I try the right clicks I placed in the body are wiped the moment I open the header--or vice versa.

I don't understand what you are doing with the Right-Clicks.
Click in a CC. Check the box for "Everyone." Click in the next CC; repeat. Once all have been marked as exceptions, start enforcement. |

Oh, thank you. I had no clue that was how it worked. I'd been using control clicks (not right clicks, my bad . . .) to select them all but that wouldn't let me highlight the header and body at once.
Is it obvious that I'm fairly new to this sort of thing, by chance? |

You are welcome. It is not intuitive and I am far from an expert. I just push buttons until something happens.

So now I have a new problem. In having created exceptions for all of my content control boxes, everything is shaded oddly so that the information in some areas is unreadable. I can uncheck the "highlight fields I can edit" box but this apparently reverts automatically when the document is closed.
How can I permanently remove the form field shading from Word 2010's content controls, so that all users can just open the file and view it normally? |

Practically, you can't. It is a user setting.
