HELP! Computer crashed, no recovery file, old versions, etc and file was open for over 24 hours!
Hello. I'm having some serious issues but we'll just discuss my computer issue for the moment. I have been working on a document with extensive research for almost a day and a half. Yes, I'm an idiot and didn't save because I set the autosave to every 4 minutes. My computer crashed and restarted itself. Best I can tell is a windows update was running and a webroot security scan was happening at the same time or in close proximity of each other (1-2 minutes). Something happened and the computer restarted. Once rebooted the document vanished. No previous versions can be found. No temp files can be found (that I can locate). Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. I had 14-16 hours of active intense research work on there and may prefer a quick death if I can't locate this file. I downloaded and rran the EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to no avail. It all happened yesterday early afternoon.I know things NEVER completely disappear. I just need help locating it. Also, there was a memory.dmp that occurred as well but I don't have the slightest clue how to read those or even if it would be helpful.
I have no idea if this is necessary, but the PFRO file says: 4/6/2016 13:36:31 - PFRO Error: \??\C:\Program Files (x86)\Webroot\WRData, |delete operation|, 0xc0000101 4/6/2016 13:36:31 - PFRO Error: \??\C:\Program Files (x86)\Webroot\WRData, |delete operation|, 0xc0000101 4/6/2016 13:36:32 - 45 Successful PFRO operations Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know there has to be a way to get it. Thanks for reading my whiney novel. I'm sick to my stomach right now. Last edited by matthew.coppedge; 04-07-2016 at 12:31 PM. Reason: added info |

If anything is to be found, it may be in an orphaned .asd or .tmp file
These files can probably be found in: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word \ and: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Temp\

If you cannot remember to save often - see http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm. Also set the automatic updates to require permission to update. This alone can save a lot of grief. If you are very lucky you may be able to find some, or all, of the document in an ASD format recovery file.
