Default Word only pastes plain text

When i copy rich, formatted text from the web, Word 2003 will NOT paste it in its original form, but shows just plain text. I have Windows XP SP2. Some help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

That will Paste it UNformatted, right? I want to keep original formatting. Actually, the problem only occurs when i paste rich text from Gmail, and just happens in IE 7, for some reason

  1. With Word 2007, I usually see these choices
  2. Formatted RTF
  3. Unformatted Text (strip away formatting, e.g., hyperlinkes)
  4. HTML
Format (paste the web page as is)
At times other types. depending upon what and how I want it done

If I am pasting from the web, I normally use Unformatted Text, which strips the formatting from what I am pasting, so what I am pasting takes the formatting of the doc I am copying from

I use Paste Special so much I have added it to my Quick Access Toolbar

Hmm...when i paste special from the web, the HTML option is missing. Why could this be?

I don't know, because when I Paste Special a web page, my default is HTML format

I don't have a solution to your problem

You might check out exploring some of these options:

Office Oval > Word Option in lower right corner > Customize > Select All Commands > Scroll down to see if you see what you want > If so, Select > Add in

in case one of the commands is missing

What is the browser you are copying from? Not all browsers and not all browser versions will copy HTML. Needless to say Word likes to work with IE the best. I use Opera as my primary browser, but if I need to preserve formatting like you are discussing I open IE.
