Captions (tables and figures)
Hi I'm using Word 2007. I always struggle with inserting caption (from references tab) and being able to freely put anything I want as the table or figure title and looking for some help! For example, open a new document and insert an image and then click on insert caption. A window opens with options for Caption and Label. Caption has a 1 in it with label set to Figure and the 1 cannot be changed. Caption could then have a Table 1-1 with label as Table and also cannot be changed. I could click on new label and type in say test but the caption would always say test 1. How can a simple thing like captions not work easily or am I missing something! I simply want to freely name a caption Table 5-1 'some text' or Figure 5-1 'some text'. Or if on the next figure in the same section I, for whatever reason, want to call it Figure 10-1 'some text'. |

Clicking in "New Labels" in the Captions Dialog Box doesn't allow you to do what you want?
