Default folders in word 2016

I have moved from Word 2000 to Word 2016, and am puzzled. With Word 2000 I created separate folders for documents related to my car, household repair, correspondence, for example. It was not at all difficult, in fact it was trivial.

Now with Word 2016...I have no clue as to how to establish folders. It's far more complicated broadly in fact.

Assistance please, and thanks.

D Ross

Why are you using Word to do something you could be using Windows Explorer for?

You can do it and it is just as easy or difficult as before, just a little different. It also depends on the operating system.
When you go to save something, under Computer you will see your document folder. If you open any folder, including Documents, you get the traditional SaveAs dialog. You can click on the New Folder button in the top left corner of the dialog.

Thank you for that response. Your image example showed you are in Office 2013. I'm using 2016, however, and in that case I cannot find the option you refer to. As for the operating system, I'm on a pc and still using Win7, but I expect to shift shortly (with some trepidation) to Win10.

Thanks for any further comment

I am setting up for Word 2016 as well.

If you go to Word Options, then click the Save tab, you'll see the option:

Don't show Backstage when Opening or Saving files.

Click this, and you should see Explorer when you go to save.
