Evidently, then, for the auto date created by entering "2016", Word for Mac 2016 on your Mac Mini uses the date Word was started on. That may be a limitation of your system or of Word on the Mac. Either way, not an unreasonable outcome in light of how most users would run Word.



Another way you could create such a date is by pressing Cmd-F9, typing DATE between the braces, then pressing F9. This will create an automatic date that will update every time the document is opened or printed. Other input options for the field include CREATEDATE, PRINTDATE and SAVEDATE, for the different dates those represent. You can also unlink the field (after updating) via Cmd-Shift-F9. Or you could just type the date and be done with it.
