Thumbs down Default Custom Dictionary Based on Document

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to set the default custom dictionary based on the current document? I use word on private letters and work-based manuscripts, which each have their own specialist vocabulary. It is easy enough to have two custom dictionaries, but when I right-click to add a word to the dictionary, there is no choice of which dictionary to add to; it always goes in the current default one. If I change from working on a private letter to a manuscript, it is a real pain to have to remember to go into the proofing settings to change the default dictionary. There must be a better way of doing this. Can the default dictionary perhaps be set in a template? Or - as a last resort - is it possible to have a macro to change the current default dictionary; then at least I could assign it to a keyboard shortcut.

I'm tearing my hair out looking for a solution to this. Any help or advice would be very, very much appreciated.

Best wishes, Patrick

Hi

I am looking a similar thing.

Further to Patrick's query, is it possible to include a custom dictionary in a document so that technical words that I have checked are not highlighted to other users? An alternative approach might be to "save" when I click "ignore" on words highlighted by the spellchecker.

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere. I tried searching and did not find anything, but am new to the forum and unconfident in my searches.

Many thanks

DCT

Check your list of customs dictionaries. I found two, the default one, and one that read, "ExcludeDistionaryEng409.dc" I have no idea what it is. I did check it (to exclude it) and my custom (default) dictionary for the project I am working on started working fine and making the changes I wanted. I don't know if this will work for you, but you might try it.

An Exclude dictionary is used to 'remove' words from the main dictionary. A typical example might be to enforce the use of one of two correct alternative spellings e.g. 'customise' and 'customize', by adding the unwanted spelling to the dictionary - https://support.office.com/en-gb/art...b-3747534edeec

Note that this has little if anything to do with this very old thread. It is much better to create new questions than add to old irrelevant ones.
