![]() I need a manuscript style: Time New Roman, 12 pt, double space, with a 2 em tab. I change it. And change it. And change it. How to I get it to become the default when I select manuscript style? |

You need to create a style to those specifics. Here are some links that can help you:
http://shaunakelly.com/word/styles/stylesms.html http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/styles.htm http://www.wordarticles.com/Articles...StylesPane.php There are many more but, the above will get you started. Hope this helps... |

After you have created the style and set the properties you want, you have to copy the style definition to your template; you do that by selecting "New documents based on this template" in the Modify Style dialog box.

Yep. Tried that. I just have to create a new style every time I start a new doc. It's not that big a deal, just irritating. It may have something to do with accidentally upgrading to Windows 10, but stopping the upgrade because of all the reported problems people are having with 10.

I doubt it has to do with the Windows upgrade. It may have to do with an Add-In.
Do the documents in which you created the style still have it? If so, the problem is an Add-In. Write back and someone here will tell you how to deal with that. Add-Ins in Microsoft Word |

I've got the tab to stay, and double space. But I have to remove "add space before/after paragraph" manually each time. No, "updating style (manuscript) to match selection" doesn't save it.
I've tried rebooting the PC, to no avail. |

Set the Spacing Before and After to zero by clicking Format and then Paragraph in the Modify Style dialog box. That way, the setting would stick.
Note that when selecting "New documents based on this template" fails, you can work around it by opening the template directly (as a document) and modifying the style in the template. To resolve the underlying issue which is preventing you from changing the template, troubleshoot for poorly designed add-ins, as Charles has already suggested.

See the manual steps that refer to troubleshooting Startup and COM add-ins in the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/921541.
