Windows 7 32bit "File>Open" in Word goes to full screen

"File>Open" in Word goes to full screen

Whenever I click "open" to open a file in word, it goes to full screen, but not simply full screen - the top right only has the "x" to close the window, there is no option of minimizing or sizing. This happens even if I opened word not at full screen, any ideas?
