WEIRD line spacing in document I didn't create - sample attached. Thanks!
I've included a sample - I'm a college prof and a student submitted this to me, but the line spacing is strange. I noticed her paper (which should be double spaced) looked almost quadruple spaced. The paper was set to double spaced. I copied and pasted all her text into a new document without formatting and it cut the length and spacing in half. The settings, however, looked the same. No idea how she pulled this off - I'd like any feedback. I didn't submit her work, I typed a sample file using her file and uploaded it. I've single spaced it, but as you can see, it looks double spaced. What's going on here? Thanks for the help! Just trying to keep them honest. |

I suspect you're seeing this behaviour because the PC on which the document was created has been set up to use Complex Scripts, such as Arabic and/or Chinese. I note that the 'Reveal Formatting' pane (which you can activate via the Style Inspector) reveals that both of these are enabled. Word allows extra space between the lines to accommodate Complex Scripts, regardless of whether the characters requiring them are present in the text.
