Start page number on page 3, go to page not working properly
I have a 97-03 document.
Page 1 of the document is the title page. Page 2 of the document is a table of contents. Page 3 of the document is where the content starts, so I added a section break at the bottom of page 2 so that the page count starts on page 3. In other words, the page number at the bottom of page 3 is page 1. Now, when I hit CTRL+G and go to page 2, it goes to the page numbered as 2. When I hit CTRL+G and go to page 3, it goes to the page numbered as 3. So on and so forth. Great! Here's the problem. When I hit CTRL+G and go to page 1, it goes to the table of contents page instead of the page numbered as 1. When I choose to show the paragraph marks and other formatting symbols, here is what I see: Bottom of Title Page: Page Break Bottom of Table of Contents Page: Section Break - Next Page Bottom of page 3 (numbered as page 1): Page Break I am assuming the problem has to do with the fact that there is no page break at the bottom of the table of content page. But I've tried inserting a page break there and that did not solve the problem. Please help! I've been trying to fix this all day and it's driving me nuts. See How to set up a document with front matter numbered separately.
Note, your TOC should act as hyperlinks to pages as well. How to create a table of contents in Microsoft Word by Shauna Kelly Generating a Table of Contents - Complex Documents |

Thank you for responding, but I'm afraid that didn't work. The page numbering I have set up works fine. The problem is when I try go to to page number 1.
Also, I should note that even though the document is saved as a 97-03 document, I am editing it in Word 2010. |

I've attached a sample of the document I am working with. If someone can take a look and figure out why CTRL+G to page 1 goes to the TOC and not the page numbered 1, please let me know. I just about give up.

You have two page ones in your document. It goes to the first one.
If you delete the page break before the table of contents and instead use a next-page section break you will then have two pages numbered 0. The first page 1 will be the one you want to go to. |

I cannot thank you enough for helping me with this. I was literally close to tears after spending all day trying to figure it out.
