Formatting of all documents has changed since saving previous document as a web page.
Hi,
New to forum and glad to have found it! I've been having issues with Word. I recently saved a document as a web page, filtered. I also removed headers and footers as well as adding in page breaks. I did this as I was formatting a document to upload as a Kindle book. However, since I did this, now every document that I save looks like it has been saved like the web page, filtered. There is no margins or headers or footers and also it looks like one continuous document instead of having pages. There is also large gaps where the pages have all merged together. I am saving all other documents as a standard Word.doc and only saved as a web page once. When I open Word to type a document it looks normal with the standard margins and spacing. However, when I save it and re-open it, this is when it looks like the formatting has gone crazy. If I view it on another PC it looks normal. However, as it saves like this it makes editing a document very hard as I can't see where a new page starts, etc. Does anyone know how I can get the formatting back to normal? I've even tried inserting headers and footers and it looks normal on screen but doesn't save just goes back to looking as if there is no formatting. Any help would be much appreciated. I am fairly proficient in Word but this has me puzzled. Nothing I try seems to sort it out. Thanks |

First off, check which display view you're using. Go to View and ensure it's not Web Layout but, for example, Print Layout. Second, check your file save settings, under File|Save and ensure the format is set to 'Word document (*.docx)'.

Thanks, Macropod!
I did what you said as it was saving as Web Layout and not Print Layout. I've changed it and everything looks normal again. Easy when you know how! Thank you so much. I've spent so much time puzzling over this and I'm so grateful for your help. I have a fairly good understanding of Word but this was the first time I had edited a document for an ebook and somehow I missed the Web Layout v Page Layout! Now I know for future use, so thank you very much. Problem solved. |
