How to create or delete nav pane list
I'd like to quickly navigate through the current document by clicking on a titled list (like a bookmark). How do I create/delete the nav pane multi-level list?

From the "View" ribbon, click on the "Navigation Pane" within the "Show" section of that ribbon.

The Navigation pane shows paragraphs whose "Outline level" is from 1 up to and including 9. If you use the built-in heading styles (Heading 1 through Heading 9), you automatically get the correct outline levels for each heading level that you need.

If you want these in an automatic numbering or outline, see also How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly. This is important to avoid what has been called "spaghetti numbering."
