Opening doc in Word 2010 causes normal template to change - font size incorrect
Hi there. Hope someone can advise, a strange problem.
I have a number of Word docs, which are frequently emailed to me. When I open them on my copy of Word 2016, they are absolutely fine. When my boss opens them on his copy of Word 2010 he gets issues. The documents are created with the Normal style defined as Arial 11pt but when my boss opens the file, it jumps to Arial 12pt. His Normal template is defined at size 11pt so I have no idea why the font changes. Not only that, if he changes the Normal style back to 11pt, when he saves it as a .pdf it jumps back to size 12. It is sending him crackers and as the resident "expert" (ha ha ) I am the one expected to fix it. I have no idea what is causing this. The document template is not set up to automatically update. I have deleted his normal template in Windows. I just can't figure out why this keeps changing. All suggestions, gratefully received. |

Diagnostic suggestions:
Start Word in Safe Mode. Then open a problem document from within Word; File > Open. Note, save it to the hard drive before opening it. What happens? Note, the normal style's font in Safe mode will be Calibri. To open Word in Safe mode: · Hold Windows key + R. · Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter Winword /safe · (The above may not work.) · Or, try holding down the Ctrl key when starting Word. · Then release the Ctrl key. A window will pop up asking if you want to start Word in Safe Mode. Click on Yes and let Word open in Safe Mode. Use Ctrl+N and create a new document. Does this work? Note that safe mode is not a way to operate Word on a daily basis. It is a diagnostic. How to Start Microsoft Word in Safe Mode |

Hi Charles, thanks for the response. Unfortunately, when the file is opened in Safe Mode, it does exactly the same thing. In fact, it opens the file into Arial 12 again, for some strange reason.
I have no idea why it reverts to this each time. As I say, it doesn't on my version (2016) |

Two possibilities:
1. One or more fonts on the problem PC are corrupt. 2. The Office installation on the problem PC is faulty. Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?
