When I insert a comment in a document, it creates a red balloon on the side that says: "Comment [D1]:" and then you can type in whatever you want. Is it possible to change something in settings so that this "Comment [D1]:" label wouldn't show up? (i.e. just a red ballon where I can type things)

Step back and see the logic for Word doing this: this is under the Review tab; so therefore, it is coded to show a default word "Comment" and a #

If you can settle with this, go to the Word Options > Popular > Then at BOTH "User Name" and "Initials," delete these, BUT REPLACE THESE ITEMS USING YOUR SPACE key because Word wants something there

You will then get Comment followed by the # of the Comment only when you insert a Comment and NOT your initials or name or whatever

Hope this helps some

Thanks for the reply, zyzzyva57. The issue is that I want to remove the entire label (all of "Comment [#]"). I understand that Word is coded to list the comments in the Review tab, but why does it also have to show up in my document (especially when printed!)?

Oh, to solve the print issue:

Method 1: See my attachment 1 (Note, the comments remain in the doc, so if you send it, a reader could open up the comments, etc)

Method 2: Office Oval > Prepare > See Attachment 2 (Note, this removes the comments -- what you would do if you don’t want the receiver of the doc to be able to see your Comments, etc)

I appreciate you trying to help, but I think u misunderstood. What I want is to be able to make comments in the balloon (and print them), but without there being this unnecessary "Comment [#]:" label in every bubble. My goal is just to make the comments easier to read. Intuitively, you would expect Microsoft to include this as an option in tools>options>track-changes>balloons, but all you can do there is change the color of the balloon and on which side the balloons show up.
