Why Does a Section Break to an Odd Page Removes One Page?

I am doing a novel and I want each chapter to start on the odd page (i.e. the right hand side of a printed book). But when I try this with section breaks, odd page it simply moves it to the even page and cuts out either page 36 or 37. I can't see since the first page of the new section doesn't contain page numbering. So I know have a document that has page 35, blank page (either page 36 or 37, not sure) and 38.



Any idea why it's doing this seemingly random thing? I have a workaround where I simply do a section break to next page twice, but it would be nice to figure this out. Thanks

This is doing what it is supposed to do. On page 35 you are inserting an odd-page section break. After the break is page 37. I assume you have a footer setting for "different first page" so it is not displaying a page number in your footer. The page following that is page 38 as it should be.

Note, when you print this, there will be a blank page printed between page 35 and 37.

I had set up a different first page as you noticed. I did a print preview and I exported to PDF and the blank page showed, So it was there as you say. Any reason why it does that? Wouldn't it be more intuitive to be able to see the blank page? Sometimes I also want to add something to that page.

If you want to add something to that page, type at the end of the previous page until it wraps (before the section break), or put a manual page break before the section break, and type away to your heart's content. Place-holder pages like that in books are traditionally completely blank.
