Windows XP How do I stop all minimized windows from opening

Then I guess what I didn't know before is that this is not the way Word 2007 is suppose to behave? I thought this is standard behavior for this program. If not, I guess I just will re-install.

Also, to clarify: It does not occur when I open a new document but only when I open an existing document that hasn't been opened
