I am responding to you, to wit, it sounds as if your new document (the Normal) document has gotten your problem saved in it

This was my point via example when I said once I got "underline" saved as a default in my Normal document

I spent a lot of time trying to get this out to no avail so this was why I said (screamed) to heck with it and reinstalled my Word

If you don't like the above, then you can spend some time updating your Normal document, because this is where your problem lies: "My question concerned all minimized Word windows opening when a new Doc is opened." Your new doc has this contained in it whether you can see it or not

Any new document is based on this core document and will have the same issue
