How do I stop all minimized windows from opening
If I have multiple word documents minimized, when ever I go to open a single additional Word Doc. all the minimized docs I have minimized open on the desktop and completely clutter it. Then I have to go through each one and re- minimize it. Is there a way to prevent this from happening,. It is extremely annoying

"Trash" can get into your basic document (Normal) thus affecting other documents based on it -- In my case, default underlining got into my Normal document I was only able to solve after doing a Word Uninstall/Reinstall
I took the time to do this when I realized I was wasting time trying to troubleshoot the problem to NO avail Sometimes going around the world to get across the street than simply crossing the street is the best option, IF you have to spend a lot more time finding (or trying to find) the freaking quicker way |

I am responding to you, to wit, it sounds as if your new document (the Normal) document has gotten your problem saved in it
This was my point via example when I said once I got "underline" saved as a default in my Normal document I spent a lot of time trying to get this out to no avail so this was why I said (screamed) to heck with it and reinstalled my Word If you don't like the above, then you can spend some time updating your Normal document, because this is where your problem lies: "My question concerned all minimized Word windows opening when a new Doc is opened." Your new doc has this contained in it whether you can see it or not Any new document is based on this core document and will have the same issue |

Then I guess what I didn't know before is that this is not the way Word 2007 is suppose to behave? I thought this is standard behavior for this program. If not, I guess I just will re-install.
Also, to clarify: It does not occur when I open a new document but only when I open an existing document that hasn't been opened |

Please read how I suggested to do a Uninstall/Reinstall, otherwise your reinstall will NOT change anything, if this is the problem, but it is a good first step, because you will have "virgin" copy of Word to work with

One workaround is to learn to live with multiple Word docs being open and just layer them. In 2007, you can press Alt + W, W to bring up a list of open windows, then press the number of the one you want.
Not a total solution, but it works. Personally, I work this way all the time. I never bother minimizing and maximizing individual docs. Cheers Steve |

Thanks but now are you saying that this is typical behavior for Word? Or, as zyzzyva57 suggested, is Word not suppose to be behaving this way? I need to figure out whether I should bother reinstalling or not. Obviously, if Word is suppose to bring up all minimized windows when another Word file is opened then I won't bother trying a reinstall. In other words, does Word behave like this for you when you open another Word file with others minimized?
Thanks |

It's not normal behaviour. You should be able to maximize one window and keep others minimized.

I was having the exact same issue. Annoyed the heck out of me.
Check out this link: http://www.withinwindows.com/2008/08...dows-part-one/ The actual solution is in part two of the above link. The poster appears to have correctly identified the problem as a legacy DDE issue and shows how to fix it with a bit of straightforward registry editing. Edit: Well, this caused a new problem to show up for me, wherein after opening several documents when I went to close the documents (by clicking the x in the upper right corner or using the 'exit word' menu selection) there would be difficulties with the normal.dotm template being read only and having to wade through a messy series of dialogs as Word tried hard to save the default template. So I undid the changes and went back to my older problem. So close. |

The link just connects to a list of topics, not answers
The link does not help. It just goes to what looks like a list of topic a guy writes about, but none say anything about the problem we are here to fix.
