Default Word 2013 works extremely slow on this particular document

Hi.

I'm having a bit of a struggle working in this document at all, since Word needs extremely long time just to scroll up and down. I've tried to copy the document to dropbox and opened it on my work-computer. Everything seems to work fine there, so I copied the altered document back to dropbox and further on to my home computer, replacing the existing document. When I opened it, everything ran very smooth, compared to earlier experience, but as I scrolled further down the document, it became increasingly sluggish and I'm about to give up, since it's not possible to work when you have to wait multiple Seconds every time you want to move up or down? I cannot imagine how a 230 kB Word document should be able to slow down a computer running With a 4GHz eight-core processor running and 32 GBs of RAM?

Have any of you guys experienced the same problem?

I'd be Grateful if any of you would have a look and see if you're able to figure out what's causing the problem(s).

Best regards

It is going to depend on what is in the document. If it were simply text, I doubt this would happen. It may be related to your display adapter, especially if you got suckered into installing Win 10.

Consider using Collapsible Headings and the Navigation Pane for moving around/scrolling. Why use Microsoft Word’s built-in heading styles? by Shauna Kelly

Use Styles for most of your formatting. This makes for a much less complex document structure. Understanding Styles in Microsoft Word

Word 2007 has no problem loading, editing or scrolling this document up and down. This is on Windows 10 x64 with 8GB of RAM and a two-core processor. But my version of Word is installed on a SSD, and so are its temp folders. This might make a difference.

The issue is related to all the Section breaks & page breaks you have in the document. Try the attached revision.

Hi and thank you for taking the time to have a look at the document. Although it Works to scroll and "jump around" in the document now, there's a lot that has changed, when it comes to placement of chords above the lyrics (it's a songbook, after all), so this will still not work, unfortunately.

Best regards

I have read through all Your replies, in addition to some tips from other People I know. I don't really know what caused the problems to begin With, but at least I have come up With a solution/work around that seems to work. I did as follows:
1. Created a brand New document
2. Edited the original "Heading 1" style to fit my needs for this New document only. (I went to Modify Style/Paragraph/Line and Page Breaks and ticked the "Page break before" check Box to have Word start each instance of the Heading 1 on a fresh page)
3. Removed both the table of contents and the index from the original document (only the actual TOC and index, not the markings)
4. Pasted the text into the New document.
5. Applied the "Normal" style to the entire document before I went through all the pages and marked all the headings With the modified "Heading 1" style.
6. As I worked my way through the document I removed some section breaks and page breaks and some other formatting/mess. I also marked the unmarked headings so that they would also show up in the index.
7. Inserted both TOC and index and crossed my fingers.
8. Scrolled up and Down for quite a while - and to my great satisfaction it seems to work like a charm now.

Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction. I wish you all a happy New year.

Best regards
