Default Word garbled my document text can I get it back?

Hi,

I'm working under the gun here to get an written assignment done for a course I am taking. I was just in the home stretch, and for some reason my document's characters all changed. Somehow I managed to save the doc like this, and I am hoping that I don't have to start over.

I was thinking that this might be a font issue or a unicode thing, but I am unsure. I tried select-all and changing the font, which seemed to have an impact on the characters appearance, but didn't change them back to a coherent, human-readable form.

Has anyone run across this before? Hoping that I can change a setting, or perform some sort of conversion that will get my document back to where it was.

This all happened on the fly, and I don't think that its a case if hitting the wrong button. Right now am thinking its some sort of corruption that happened to the file...
