Default What type of box do I have?

I have a box in a file that I inherited looks like a text box, but it does not act like one. You can type into it and it will grow, but if you are in the box and start hitting the delete key, text under it will come into the box. It can be resized, but it cannot be moved. Clicking in in does not open up any of the tools that one would expect from a text box, or even from a single cell table. It does not create a problem, but I am quite perplexed.
