Not to offend, but in WordPerfect I have created documents with a macro that allows me to open the template as a document and provides boxes I can type in the desired info and it is placed where it belongs.
I want to do that in Word 2016, but have not been able to find out how. I am not a programmer so I do not know how to do programming. To explain what I want, I am a retired pastor and do the Sunday bulletin. In WP I can create a "Fill in" macro that allows me to set up all the Hymn #'s and Titles in separate boxes, along with dates that change from week to week. BUT, I want to make use of Word 2016, so I hope someone can provide me with "clear instructions" on how to do this. Thank you in advance, BroJames |

Before we go furher, read this:
Word for Wordperfect Users You do not want to use the Word Fill-In or Ask fields. They are way too cumbersome for ordinary use. What you are looking for here is a custom dialog box called a UserForm. Create a Simple Userform Create & Employ a Userform By the way, template is a term of art in Word. To use a template properly, you double-click on it. This creates a new document based on (and attached to) the template. You can use an AutoNew macro to trigger the userform when this happens. For more specific advice, it would be helpful if could you attach a document to a post with some representative content (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Thanks Charles, for the links to the documents. I will study them and hopefully learn how to create/convert what I am doing to Word. Let you know how I do.

Paul,
I have saved a WP document as a Doc and hopefully it will show what I am talking about. In the document I colored the areas red that I fill in through dialog boxes that then puts the info in the correct place. I'm not good for explaining what I am trying to do, but I appreciate your help and will attempt to follow all directions. Thanks again, BroJames |

This could easily be done with a userform or with content controls, but it would make things simpler if you have a list of the hymns with their numbers to select from.

Graham,
As to the hymns, I use the index in the hymnal to get the titles and page numbers. The dates are future from the time I create the bulletin. I'll look at your web site to see what you have there. Thanks for your response. BroJames |

Thanks for your replies, I'm still working on this and will get back to you as soon as I am successful. I just know I will be successful even though I know NOTHING about Code.
