Default Same doc, different computers, page numbers don't match

This issue involves what happens when a Word docx file is created on one computer and then opened on a different computer.

Three people working on same document. One using Office 2007 on a Windows 7 computer, one using Office 2007 on an XP computer, another using a Mac OS X computer running Office 2013.

If a Word docx file is created on one of them (doesn't seem to matter which one) and given page numbers, the information displayed on each page is not the same from one computer to the next.

I've checked formatting and the file comes through with the same font and sizes, margins don't always seem to come through the same but even after making sure they are the same as the original file, the contents on say page 308 are different on one computer compared with another.

Any idea why this kind of information would change when we have the same margins and the same font?

Slight detail change. Don't think this really makes any difference but the Office version on the Mac is 2010.

Different printer driver even if not a different printer. There may also be an issue with styles being updated. See What happens when I send my document to someone else? Will Word mess up my formatting?

Thanks for the info. I was originally thinking about the printers having to do with it but had discounted it since two of the computers in the loop having the issue use the same printer. But...it isn't the same driver because one is the XP computer and the other is the OS X computer...different drivers.

The link you sent really explains how Word works. I really appreciate the quick reply. I completely see how it can change based on what template we use and whether we have a box checked or not. An eye opener for sure.

Thanks,
Steve
