Default I'm having trouble with word after installing Windows 7

These are the problems I'm having:

1) All my recently used files were removed.

2) When a file is added to the list of recent files, it later is removed, even when the pin is pressed.
3) When I attempt to mail merge to email, I get a message that says I have to log into Microsoft Exchange. What's that?
4) I then tells me that it cannot access a database. I have one attached as part of the mail merge process.
5) Then I'm told that I haven't set a Mail program as a default. Windows Live Mail is set as my default email program.
6) I got the merge to work, I think. I had the clock/program circle running for a minute or so, but no emails were placed in the sent file folder.

I need to figure out how to send my emails, now!

Can anyone help?

1) All my recently used files were removed? This is what would happen if you did a CLEAN INSTALL as opposed to an UPDATE, e.g. keeping everything, but upgrading to Windows...A CLEAN INSTALL cleans out everything...If you went with CLEAN INSTALL you should have been warned to off-load any files on your hard disk, or lose them

2) When a file is added to the list of recent files, it later is removed, even when the pin is pressed. Again, if you did an Upgrade, I would uninstall Word and do a reinstall, because Word is "confused" -- If you do this, Uninstall with the FREE program Revo Uninstaller, and when asked, make sure you clean ALL your Registry Keys, because, otherwise, a new Word intall will remember your old settings

3) When I attempt to mail merge to email, I get a message that says I have to log into Microsoft Exchange. What's that?

With questions 4, 5, and 6, I think doing "2" above will resolve these issues

Thanks for the info! I did a 32 bit Upgrade, not a clean install. The same problem exists with Excel. It looks like I can uninstall Office 2007 Student, but I only have 1 install left with it. I have it installed on 2 PC's.

I just discovered that the Control Panel shows that Office is installed on the other PC, but I can't find word or excel on the start menu. I did the 64 bit upgrade on it. Is there a Windows 7 forum I should be on instead of the Word Forum?

Another question comes to mind, what else did Windows 7 Installation screw up on my PC's?
