Default Question about table caption problem

Hello,

I'm having a problem where inserting a caption to my table makes the table jump to the next page while the table caption stays on the previous page. It's as if there's a page break after the caption and it looks really silly. Does anyone here know what this is caused by and how I can fix it?

That may be because there isn't enough space on the page for both the caption and the table with the current formatting. You could try reducing the space before/after the caption paragraph and also applying 'keep with next' paragraph formatting to it.

Hello and thank you for the quick reply. My problem is that the table is several pages long (8 pages in total). Also the 'keep with text' paragraph formatting is already in use. Is the only way of getting around this to chop the table into smaller pieces?

What text wrapping is used in the table properties? Try making sure it is None so that Word treats the table as the next paragraph. I saw this problem recently, and the table title, even though it had Keep With Next applied, would not follow the table to the next page. Changing the wrap from Around to None cured it.

Without seeing the table in question - or at least the first part of it, which is where the problem originates - it is difficult to diagnose & resolve such issues. You can do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen (delete anything sensitive first).

I have tried all these suggestions, and I have split the table, still to no avail! Oddly it does not do it on all tables in the document. If there are any other solutions I'd love to know. Thanks.

Cancel request, splitting table a second time worked - it's so much easier in Framemaker!

Glad you got it worked out.

Word is not FrameMaker.
