They still take ages to open?

When I ran the small macro to display the existing template, I opened one of the documents. It took ages to load as usual, I assumed it would then change the template to the normal one automatically? Is this not why it displays as normal?

which only goes to show you haven't changed the template path/name.
The fact the document can't find its template doesn't cause the document to revert to the normal template or the macro to display a template other than the one attached to it. Are you sure you had the correct document active when you ran the macro?

Well I think I am doing it correctly :-/



I have added the macro into the document file name Q0340-Coppice.docx, and run it from that window.

It display "Normal" in the popup MSG box.

The file was created with a document template which should be \\SERVER\templates$\mytemplate.dotx. This path is no longer available, nor the template (although I have a copy of a slightly amended template which I am trying to attach, with the same filename.dotx.

Umm. OK. I have created a template in the startup folder and run the macro from there.

Anything that was on the server is still showing up as "normal", but some older documents in the same folder are showing the path as "c:\templates which is where they used to be before moving to the server. Also, anything saved recently is showing up as "\\NEWSERVER\tempates", so the macro is working.

When I run the macro now, it cycles through the files, but doesn't seem to change anything when I check the files. The loop also ends early, near the end with an issue with the datestamp of the file by the looks of it.

I also notice some are template.dot, and some .dotx.

They are old files that I don't really need, but it is nice to be able to look back and open them. If you fancy a donation by Paypal, would you be interested in doing this for me?

Files that simply referenced 'normal' are unlikely to have needed a change, since they simply pick up whatever the current path to 'normal' is; it's only those that referenced a custom template, for which a file path will have been stored, that need changing - which is what the macro does.
These two statements seem mutually exclusive; either the macro changes something or it doesn't. As for document referencing a template in "c:\templates", those would only change if you used "c:\templates" as the old path - the macro only changes the one path you give it, not any others. In any event, since those files aren't referencing templates on a network share, I wouldn't expect to see any lag when opening them.
