Balancing bottom line in facing pages
Hi All
Not sure what the technical term is but I've got a document on facing pages, a novel manuscript, and I've noticed that occasionally the bottom lines are not even on each page. It's not a massive problem, but wondered if I can do anything about it in the future. I read something about this elsewhere which basically said it's one of the hardest things to do in Word and, it may as well have had "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here" written before it. Any ideas? Regards & thanks R |

That's really the kind of thing you should be using page layout software for. In part, the behaviour may be due to the use of Word's widow/orphan settings.
It may also partly be due to paragraph before/after spacings and/or footnotes. You can modify Word's behaviour regarding paragraph before/after spacings by checking the options to suppress extra line spacing: • at the bottom of a page; • at the top of a page; and • 'before' following a hard page break, via File|Options|Advanced>Layout Options.

Hi Paul
Thanks for this - I do have Word 2010 on another computer but right now this doc. is on Word 2003 and I can't find "via File|Options|Advanced>Layout Options." on there. How do I get to Advanced Layout Options on 2003 - is it possible? Thanks, R |

In Word 2003, I think you'll find a Layout Options button somewhere on the Tools|Options group.
