Changing the indent setting of automatic numbering in my default style
I have a default style. The "Adjust List Indent" settings are not what I want. I want to change those settings to "0.00" Number position and Follow number with "Space" and not "Tab" I want those changes to apply every time to that default style. I don't want to readjust every time. Please help. thank you. Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 09-18-2015 at 01:52 PM. Reason: Mark as solved |

If you normally apply numbering by selecting a format via Home tab | Numbering (or via Home tab | Multilevel List), then you can't change the defaults.
You will have to set up a specific style instead. You can modify one of the built-in numbered styles, such as List Number.

Here's how to modify List Number: In the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S), type in List Number. Click the Apply button. Word adds the number formatting to text. Click the actual list number so that Word selects it. Right-click and choose Adjust List Indents. Change "Follow number with" to "Space" and make any other modifications that you want. Click OK when you are done. This updates the style.
To transfer the settings to your template, do the following: Press Ctrl+Shift+S again to activate the Apply Styles pane. Click Modify. In the Modify Style dialog box, select "New documents based on this template" and click OK. Later, if/when you are prompted to save the template, choose to do so.
