Question Restrict editing: allowing forms, tracked changes AND comments

Hello,

I'm trying to stop users from being able to delete or edit field macros (which also serve as headings) on a Word document. I've tried doing this using continuous section breaks to contain the field macros, then restricting editing to filling in forms with only the sections containing the field macros set to restricted. However, this disables tracked changes and comments, which I need users to be able to make. I've tried restricting the document to read only and setting everything apart from the field macros as exempt, but this disables tracked changes. The other two restrict editing options also disable tracked changes.

I need users to be able to make comments and tracked changes and have normal editing capabilities on everything but the field macros.

Any ideas? My workplace uses Word 2010 on Windows 7.

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Unfortunately, your requirements are mutually exclusive with Word.

A workaround would be to keep the editable text bookmarked in a separate, unprotected document, which your 'form' document can reference via INCLUDETEXT fields. Provided you leave the INCLUDETEXT fields unprotected and the edits are only made within the bookmarked ranges in the unprotected document, you can use Track Changes & Comments there and have them replicated in the 'form' document. All the users will need do to see the changes is click in the unprotected INCLUDETEXT fields and press F9.
