How can I individually control page numbers in Word?
I'm at the tail end of a doctoral dissertation, and it requires very specific formatting on the page numbers. I need to have no page numbers on the first 2 pages, then roman numerals for the next several, then go onto regular page numbers. I cannot seem to figure out how to make this happen in the regular page number insertion windows. Can anyone help with this?
I'm running Word 14.3.4 on a 2011 Mac running OSX 10.9.5 Thanks to anyone who can help! |

See Numbering Front Matter (Ribbon).
This can be done. Page numbering is a Section property. How to control the page numbering in a Word document |

section revisions
I'm having the same issue and this response is helpful. But I wonder if there is a separate forum just for MS Word for Mac.
I've learned (the hard way) that the Mac version of MS Word is substantially different (and less stable) than the Windows version. I'm trying to revise a manuscript for publication with LULU and am having lots of issues that I suspect may be because I'm on the Mac version. If there is no forum dedicated to Ms Word 2011 for Mac, I'll go ahead and post here. (But actually I don't even see a button for new posts). Thanks, in advance, for guidance. Claire |

Try this forum set on the MS server.
Otherwise, I believe that Section and page numbering behavior is pretty much the same on the Mac (with possibly different shortcut keys). Sections / Headers and Footers in Microsoft Word 2007-2013 |

Thank you! Is that actually a Microsoft forum or a third-party site?
And I'll take a look at that link you sent, too. Many thanks! |

It is a Microsoft-hosted forum on a Microsoft server. Virtually all responses are from non-Microsoft-Employees, volunteers, often with more knowledge and experience than the employees.

Great. Is it OK (or a no-no) to post here and there as well?

If you need to post in both locations, you should put a link to the "thread" for one in the other and vice-versa. If an answer is posted in one location, you should make a note in the other that your question has been answered, with a link to the answer.
