Unhappy I am unable to open documents in Word through their file location, only via Word itself (Word 2013)

Whenever I attempt to open a document through its file location I receive a pop up asking me what program I would like to use to open the document (as indicated in attached file ugh1.PNG). Word isn't an option present on the "recommended" or "other" program lists. I am able to find Word through the browse function, but whenever I attempt to select or open the program the window closes out and my selection is not recorded. It seems that it is unable to recognize Word as a viable program for opening the documents. (The documents were created using this Word program.) However, if I open Word I am still able to select and edit the files through there (as indicated in ugh2.PNG). This isn't really much more than a mild inconvenience, but it is getting irritating and if anyone knows how to resolve it I would be extremely extremely obliged

Hi Duke, I'm thinking you may have just upgraded from a previous version? I had a similar issue. Apparently there are some DDE issues with the new version. if you run the repair option in add and remove programs in your control panal it should fix the issue.

Red face This sounds like it might work

Yes, I did just upgrade from Word 2003 to Word 2013. This didn't start happening until I deleted the old Word, I think. Can you be more specific on how to repair the program? My control panel is similar to what you are describing but I can't find the exact function.

First of all change to small icons in control panel, that'll show you all your control panel options. Click on Programs and features it will open up a list with all your installed software. Search for Office 365 (I'm presuming that you've got the full package, if not then it'll be listed as Microsoft word 2013). click change. That will open up a dialogue box which will allow you run the repair.
