Default Word 2000 to Word 2003 or higher

I am writing a book using Word 2000 to write and I am happy with it.

However, I need to convert the manuscript to Lyx for typesetting and the conversion program only works with 2003 and higher.

Is there any way I can convert the 2000 manuscript to 2003 or higher for the conversion?

I do not have access to a higher version of Word and I cannot read the ms into that.

Thanks.

The file formats are the same, so unless the converter actually requires the Word 2003 or later program in order to make the conversion, the fact that it was written with 2000 shouldn't matter.

Thanks.

I have no idea. The author of the conversion program specifies that it works only with 2003 and up. I asked him abt 2000 and he said no, but I dk why. I can ask him, but I suspect that if he said no, it won't work.

The converter is a Word add-in -- it adds itself as a menu option in Word.
It does add to the 2000 docs, but it works only with 2003 and up.
So converting docs to 2003 or higher won't help.

As Graham said, it's not that the document needs any conversion (the Word 2000 & Word 2003 file formats are the same); rather, the addin doesn't work with Word 2000. Indeed, there is no such thing as a converter to convert Word 2000 documents to Word 2003 documents. To do the Lyx conversion, you will need your existing documents and a Word 2003 (or later) installation. Although Word 2007 & later use a different file format, even they can process Word 97-2003 documents.
