Default Is part of document deleted or not?

Hello all,

I was working on a 54-page document last night and shifted some text and photos around. Then I saved it. I opened it this morning and:
  • There are only 22 pages.
  • The headings for all 54 pages display.
  • When I regenerated the table of contents, all headings continue to display.
  • At the end of the document, I can scroll the last page up until it disappears. I've never seen that before.
Is there a possibility that I can recover the last 32 pages of my document?

In the attached screenshot you can see the last page scrolled up. On the left the last heading I can access is Axel Jonatan Blomgren, which is where the document ends. But look at all the other headings that still display. Weird.

Try pressing Alt-F9, to see if maybe you've managed to encompass the content in a field. If you have, the content will be encompassed by a pair of field braces (i.e. { }). In that case, cut all the content from between the field braces (don't select either field brace!), then delete them and paste the content back into the document.

Thanks. I tried it and I didn't get anything, although I noticed on the last page I had a page ref that referenced page 32. When I updated it, it changed to 22, the last page of the document.

Any other suggestions?

Have you checked whether the text has been formatted as hidden? Clicking on the ¶ symbol on the Ribbon's Home tab should toggle Word's hidden text display on/off.

Thanks for the suggestion, Paul, but unfortunately, that didn't work either. Since you mentioned hidden text I went to File>Option>Display and selected hidden text but that didn't do anything.

Another symptom: When I press Ctrl-End, I don't go to the end of the document, but when I press Ctrl-Home I go to the top. There's something weird at the bottom of this document.

Can I send it to you and you can see if you can figure it out?

If the document is less than 500kb in size, you could attach it to a post. You do that via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

I'm willing to share it with one person but not everyone on the forum. Plus it's 19,000 Kb.
