Default [Type Text] on every page

Hi,
I am using word 2010 and have somehow gotten a "[Type text]" on every page of my document. It is a light gray color and in the upper left hand corner. I am not sure how I got that to appear. How do I remove this?
It show up when I print the document.

I have also scanned some documents and inputted them into a file. How do I crop out the stuff I do not want.

Thanks,!
Peaches

Two unrelated questions:
1. It appears you have some unwanted text in the header. Open the header view and remove it (Insert tab > Header > Edit header.)
2. I am not sure what 'inputted them into a file means'. Scans are graphical images of the documents. In order to edit them you need OCR (Optical Character Reading) text to convert them into editable text. The results will largely depend on the quality of the oCR software and what the scanned document contained. There is no easy answer.

A prompt such as "[Type text]" could have been inserted by a header building block (Insert tab | Header). As Graham wrote, you can select and delete it after you have activated the header/footer view (for example by double-clicking the header).
