Please pay attention and read the question carefully:

I have a document in which there are several proper nouns. These nouns are diffused in whole pages of the document.
Now I want to create an Index in which these proper nouns be sorted according to their pages, not typically according to proper nouns themselves alphabetically. The Index I want to be created is some thing like this:
'Page 124: John Smith, Jack Brown, Mayfair.
Page 125: London, Hitchcock, bellagio Road.'


Attend to this point that number of each page must be updated if an especial proper noun moves to another page. For example if the writer cut the 'London' from page 125 and paste it in page 124 and update the Index, it must remove from page 125 to 124 automatically.
I hope to explain the question completely. If it is not obvious, aware me to explain more about.
How can I do it? Has Ms-Word some thing to do it? If your answer is negative, tell me how can I do it. It is very important for me.

You could perhaps use a special Table of Contents.

This would require marking your entries with a paragraph style with an outline level like level 9 and setting your options for the TOC field.

I know of no way to set up an Index field this way.

Do you mean to create a Table Of Contents? But TOC can not make what I need to.

Yes, that is what I mean. The Table of Contents field is quite flexible but responds to either TC entries or paragraph styles. Thinking about it, a TC entry would work, you would simply put it at a level greater than you are using in any actual table of contents.

I can not do it. Would you create a table of content (as I explained) via attached file. I created a table of contents (at page 1) manually. Would you make such table which be updated automatically after changing the document.

What I need is sorting contents according to their page numbers.
I can not find this possibility and facility in table of Contents in word 2007.
Would you do me a favor and explain more about where I can find it.

I do not think I could do what you want. I do not know that it can be done short of macros that I do not have the skill to write.

I could get your formatting but it would still be one line for each entry, not one line for each page.

What you are asking for - and index sorted by page # rather than by word or phrase - violates the norms of indexing, especially given that a single index entry can have multiple page entries. For what you want, you could start off with a Table of Contents, but you'd then need to unlink that and re-order the entries the way you want. I'm not sure what that would achieve, as none of the index entries would then be linked to the pages concerned and re-creating the links would have to be done via hyperlinks. Yes, all of this could be automated via a macro, but writing one to do it isn't a trivial exercise.

It cannot be done automatically. My recommendation would be to use the TOC and then, in your final product, manually edit it. A macro to do this would be painfully difficult. I agree that I can't see the point of having such an index.

Actually it can be done manually, but I search for a solution in which Word do all (even updating it) like what Index or ToC are done with Word itself.

The fact that the task can be done manually suggests that it can also be automated in code, but it doesn't mean that writing the code is uncomplicated, as Charles and Paul have already said.

That's simply not going to happen. Since Word doesn't have any built-in functionality to do this the way you want (e.g. via a field), anything you create, whether manually or via a macro, will be static. The only way of updating the output would be to be to manually edit the list or have your macro delete it and re-create it from scratch.
