Default Fonts Only Showing Font Family, not sub families

Hi We just installed 18 fonts into word, they are contained in two families. The rest of the fonts show up as subfamilies of the two main font families. How can we get the subfamilies to show up under the drop down menu on the ribbon? Currently it will only show the two main font families. I know I can access the other fonts from the fonts dialog box, but this is not very intuitive for users, who think they are missing 16 of the 18 fonts.

A modern font set includes separate files for normal, bold, italic, etc., but the only entry in most applications will be for the base font - the others are treated as attributes of that font. if that's what you mean by 'subfamilies', then why your users should think they're missing fonts is rather odd when other fonts they've used for years perform the same way. Arial, for example, has separate files for Regular, Black, Narrow, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Narrow Bold, Narrow Bold Italic & Narrow Italic.

This is what the user had to say:

The font is Roboto, by Google, and while it has similar weights to Arial (Roboto Light, Medium, Black), it does NOT perform in a similar way. Only the Roboto and Roboto Condensed fonts can be found in a list, and the rest of the 16 weights are inaccessible, even through the back end styles.
It seems that Microsoft Word is not parsing the TTF files of this modern font. Any ideas how we can install or manipulate the font files to fix this?

The problem, if these is one, is unlikely to be with MS Word. Rather, it will more likely reflect how Windows processes the font and that largely depends on how the maker has encoded the relationships within the family.
