Word 2007 , when I save a .doc or .docx file the file type is showing "Empty"
other file types such as .dot (Microsoft Office Word 97 - 2003 Template) as showing correct . it's only these two that have a problem. Other office products such as Excel are fine. I removed MS Office 2007 suite and then reloaded it together with all the updates but the problem still remains, Please, has anybody got any ideas on have to correct this problem? |

Try re-registering Word as follows: Exit the program if it is currently running. Then hold the Windows logo key as you press R; in the Run dialog box, type winword /r and press Enter. After the configuration has completed, see if file types are correct.

Hi Stefan,
Thank you for your reply. I have followed your advise but after the configuration had completed the file types for .doc and .docx are still showing empty, Regards Tom |

I'm guessing that double-clicking icons for *.doc and *.docx isn't working, either?

Hi Again, when I double click a *.doc or *.docx file, Word 2007 opens correctly showing the file contents. Once opened I have noticed that when I try a "Save AS" instruction , keeping the file name the same , I don't get any "Confirm save as " message, the file just saves. Regards Tom

What you are describing is new behavior in Word 2013: If you Save As on a Word document and pick the same name as the open file, Word just saves the file.

Hi Stefan,
My version of word is running as part of MS Office Pro 2007. It is very annoying that all other file types for MS and other applications work fine , it's only these two that have a problem. Word still works and I guess I will just have to live with the problem. I am sure that you are very busy with other things of greater importance. I have been thinking further about this problem, I think this could be to do with "File Associations" and implies that I have a registry corruption. I wonder if it is worth running an "SFC / Scannow" to see if any of the basic windows files are corrupted. I am not sure what other problem that might cause however. Thanks again for your support , regards Tom |

It's most likely something with the registry (that conclusion is why I suggested winword /r). Recent versions of Windows give less control over file associations (in the user interface, that is), and therefore you may prefer to leave things in peace, frustrating as that may be. :-(
