Default word 2000 template disappeared in upgrade

My systems admin recently upgraded 2 of my users, without checking with the users first , from office 2000 to 2003. There was a custom 20 year old template they apparently used in 2000 but now when they go into their 2003 templates it is no longer there. No one knows the location of this file, but they still apparently need it. I checked the C drive on multiple PCs and a few servers where it might be and no go. All ideas and suggestions are welcome. Is there any location other than C:\...\Office\Templates that it could be located in if they just saved it to the default location?

Additional Info:

Was created in 95 and upgraded to 97 then 2000.
