Default Help Customizing Document Protection

I have a large word document with lots of text boxes and tables. I need for users to be able to fill in the text boxes as well as table cells while preventing them from editing all other text.

I have created macros that allow users to add or delete rows to the tables. The macro disables protection, adds or deletes the current row, and then re-enables protection.

If I set the document protection to "Filling In Forms" then they can fill in the forms, but they cannot select the tables. So, what I have done is set the protection to "No Changes (Read Only)" and I have added an Exception for Everyone to all of the text boxes and table row 2 and below for all of the tables. This allows users to select and type in all of the text boxes and do everything that they need to do with the tables.

The problem is that if the users are not careful, they can delete the text boxes. This is not good because I am using Microsoft Access to pull data from the text boxes and the table cells.

I am using Legacy text boxes because I like the formatting controls. I can prevent users from typing text in number only text boxes. Some text boxes should only have currency values, others should have numbers without decimal values.

If I use Content Controls, I can check the box to prevent users from deleting the content control, but they do not have any validation functionality. I could send the data to a VBA sub to do my own validation, but I don't see how I can fire an event after a user changes data in a content control.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

David

For that you'd use a Document_ContentControlOnExit macro.

Thank you. That is exactly what I decided to do. I am using the Content Controls now instead of the legacy text boxes. And I am using the OnExit event to validate the controls. I wrote my own validation subs.

Thanks,

David
